Garden Watcher

If you're a cup half empty kind of person, you might be dismayed at the wildness prevailing behind Buddha in the garden.
I see it as a glorious work in progress and it progresses at my speed, which is a tad on the slow side.

It's All About Scheming

This planter should be brimming with loam by this time; my muscles feel as though they've been shovelling into the composter and tossing out into the planter for a third of my lifetime and look at the pitiful results.

How to move this along? Well,I am full of maternal joy that Number Two Son flew into town last night and will be here over the long weekend.

Today is my day to entertain him and the weather is sunny so it would be a pity to sit indoors.
Let's see, what could we do?

This has the makings of an excellent, productive day.

A Perfect Mother's day

Despite a looming deadline with his publisher, number five son came to my rescue on Mother's Day.

While planning for our short-season planting schedule, and in a manic moment, I bought the makings to build four raised beds to cover a lot of the boggy garden.
In real life, the beans are supposed to cling to a trellis, not a life preserver.

Little problem--I'm an inept builder, so I shamelessly scouted around for help.

My radar fixed on Number Five, who fought frigid weather and spitting rain to finish the most important planter (there are shrubs sitting naked, waiting to get back into the earth).


In two weeks and counting he promises to return to finish the others.

We eventually retired to his place where his understanding wife prepared her own Mom's Day meal and it was a thing of beauty. I'll do my best make that up to her.

A great Mother's Day it was.

First Taste of Spring

The deck looked like this when I began pulling stuff out of the shed.
It's still early days but there is some order now.

Eventually the rain will stop and the sunshine will return and I'll move on to the tweaking stage.
